Jake Hudgins, Ph.D., CSCS, ACSM-CPT

Research Associate & Lab Manager

Dr. Jake Hudgins is an experienced researcher and practitioner of applied exercise physiology and sport performance. In addition to contributing to the conceptual design and execution of research projects for the OPRL, he is also responsible for managing and coordinating other lab operations to ensure projects function smoothly and as planned.

Jake received his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky where his research focused on wearable training devices for estimating metabolic workloads during running or improving strength and power training. With an interest in leveraging the ever growing amount of data in modern performance research, he also completed a Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics during his Ph.D. Prior to his doctoral research, Jake was an Assistant Performance Coach for Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Utah Royals teams where he assisted with the design and implementation of physical performance training programs and sport science initiatives. He received his Master of Science in Strength & Conditioning from the University of Georgia and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from Florida State University where he also interned with the strength & conditioning staffs for Olympic Sports and Football, respectively. Over the last decade, Jake has also privately trained hundreds of individuals from youth to masters’ athletes, as well as individuals simply seeking to maintain fitness later in life.

Jake’s combined background in both performance coaching and research helps when working directly with athlete participants or translating scientific findings to actionable and tangible strategies for anyone seeking to advance performance.

Outside the lab, Jake loves training for triathlons and other performance goals while also exploring Oregon’s great food and wine culture with his wife Kristen.
